Braun and Brown win chamber fishing derby
Twenty-eight participants fished in the Stover Chamber of Commerce Crappie Tournament on the Lake of the Ozarks Saturday, May 3. The event was a fund-raiser for the chamber and $160 was deposited into the chamber’s account after all prizes were awarded.
Taking first place and a nice $500 check was Stover’s own Kent Braun and Rusty Brown with a 10-fish total weight of 12.11 lbs.
Keeping it local, Stover’s Robert Reeves and Chris Shoemaker hauled in 11.48 lbs and $350 for second place. Reeves and Shoemaker also had the second largest fish hitting the scales at 1.34 lbs.
Fishing out of Camdenton and Montreal, third place finishers Matt Webster and Troy Weithrop netted $250 for the day with a 11.12 lb tally.
Big Fish honors of the day went to Diane and Lonnie Stevens from Lincoln. They landed a 1.41 lb slab and a check for $140. The Stevens’ and all participants braved a pretty strong wind for most of the day.
Weigh-in and prizes were awarded at Edgar’s Outdoor Sports on Highway 52 in Versailles. Tony Edgar served as weigh-master.
Before the prizes were handed out Chamber President Bill Fairbairn thanked Rick Sparks who organized (and fished) the event, as well as all participants.
“For the first event we had a nice turnout and learned what we can do to help make these Stover area chamber events first class. Rick did a great job pulling this together and we already have teams looking forward to the next one,” Fairbairn noted.
Beside the many local participants, this tournament drew a team from Jefferson City and one from the St. Louis area. The entire Lake of the Ozarks was fishable during this event.
