Safety Day 2008 to be May 31 in the park
Stover Police Department will host Safety Day 2008 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, May 31 at Stover Legion Memorial Park.
Several activities for all ages will be held. Missouri State Highway Patrol will demonstrate the Roll Over vehicle showing the importance of wearing a seat belt. Missouri State Water Patrol will provide information on boating safety.
Other surrounding agencies including Stover Rural Fire Protection District, Mid-Mo Ambulance District, Morgan County Sheriff’s Department and Morgan County 911 will be on hand with different demonstrations relating to public safety. Staff for Life helicopter will be on display at the helipad.
This is the second year Stover Police Department will host the event, coordinated by Officer Stephen Phillips. The purpose of the event is to educate youth and parents on public safety issues.
Drawings for bicycles and bicycle helmets will be held throughout the event. Information packets, coloring books, mood pencils and many other items will be given away.
Stover Police Department is offering bicycle registrations free of charge to people who reside inside the Stover city limits. Citizens may register bicycles at any time by contacting any Stover officer. Registering takes minutes and information is entered into a database to help locate the owner of recovered or stolen bicycles.
A rain date for Safety Day 2008 has been set for 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, June 14 in the park.

Talent show entries needed for Stover fair
The Third Annual Stover Fair Talent Show will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 19, on the stage at Stover Legion Memorial Park.Crockerville Crossing Karaoke will be providing audio for the Talent Show as well as hosting the Talent Quest following the Talent Show.
Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants in four age categories. Age categories are: 8 years and younger; 9-13 years old; 14 - 18 years; and 19 years and older. The age group in which contestants participate in will be based on their age as of June 19.
Prizes to be awarded are $125 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place.
Finalists must provide their own pre-recorded music on CD for performance. Audition tapes/CD’s and entry fees must be received by May 20. Include $15 entry fee, telephone number, age, and address. Auditions are not exceed eight minutes (preferred a’cappella). Five entries from each age group will be selected to perform on Friday, June 20.

City hall to be closed May 19
Stover City Hall will be closed Monday, May 19 while City Clerk Sharon Fry attends a training session.
The Stover City Council meeting will be held as scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 19 at Stover City Hall.
